
As the morning mist rises from the forest, the clouds above give a most interesting look to the event.

The sunlight bursts through the clouds after a storm making an impressive show of blinding light. If you tilt your head a bit, you may see a face in the clouds.

In Arco, Idaho, high up in the mountains there is a natural arch bridge. Nice hike but, not recommended for those with health conditions.

At Craters of the Moon national park, a dead tree lies amongst the lava rock. I liked the combination of colors in this shot.

In Carson City, Nevada a distinctive C and the American flag look over the city at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

As The sun sets over the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, heavy smoke and haze from the Caldor fire near South Lake Tahoe, creates an eerie scene. You can make out the outline of a few pine trees against the orange sun.

In Pioche, Nevada, an abandoned cable system was used to transfer ore from the mine several miles through town and out to the smelter. I took this photo of the buckets crossing over the graveyard. It feels as if it is a tribute to those who worked, lived and died there.

Ever hear the joke about there was only one tree in the field and I hit it? I thought the same thing when I saw the tire tracks heading at this tree.

I liked the design made in the field while planting crops. The surrounding landscape was really eye catching.

The beauty of the Carson River in Carson City, Nevada comes out with fall colors in the high desert.

The weathering on these rocks produced a unique look. If you look closely, you can see a trail of rock and boulders that have followed the water drainage through the rocks.

In the southern deserts of Nevada, you come across some of the most memorable sights. The blending of brush, colorful rock and trees growing through the cracks is amazing.

A large boulder that looks like it has a nose and an open eye, sits by itself in a field of green bushes in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

A half moon was visible during the daytime. I liked the look and gave it an antiqued pinhole photograph appearance.

During the summer of 2020, a light haze from fires made for an interesting photograph in the desert of Nevada. The moon shone brightly in the daytime creating a nice blend of color.

“C Hill” sits above Carson City, Nevada. Every year the high school graduating class climbs the steep terrain to change the date in the center of the “C”. This is a long standing tradition that adheres to this day.

Just outside of Cave Lake near Ely, Nevada, you will find this rocky peak standing out on its own.

On Lake Couer D’Alene, Idaho you will find many lakefront homes and cabins that are built with a spectacular view of the area.

The wispy clouds in this photo blend well with the surrounding scenery in Arco, Idaho.

Washoe Lake located outside of Carson City, Nevada. During the drought of 2017 the lake dried up. This photo was taken from the center of the lake looking towards Slide Mountain.

A mountain in the distance is covered in snow. The rocky ledge breaks up the surface and with more snow on top, reminded me of a layer cake.

Travelling around the country, you can still find advertisements on the side of buildings like this one advertising for caterpillar tractors, or CAT for short.

This long abandoned barn still stands in a pasture in a forest. I went with a old time filter to give the photo its dated look.

Take a hike and come up upon a beautiful lake in the morning. Spooner Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes near Lake Tahoe that locals have access to. Though not as well known as Tahoe, walking around this lake is most enjoyable.

The first cold snap during fall can leave a beautiful scene to behold. The low lying mist, the dusting of snow and frost on the trees and the mixed colors leave you spellbound

In the deserts of Nevada, you can find some very unusual things. This one room schoolhouse is off the beaten path on highway 50 in central Nevada.

On a calm morning, I shot this photo a desert lake in Nevada. The colors were spectacular and the water reflected them well.

In the Nevada Desert, you come across some interesting things. Here, the sun was in just the right position to give the impression that it had just cut this boulder in half.

Watching the sun come up at Lahontan Reservoir in Northern Nevada can be spectacular.

There are many desert lakes in Nevada that are just perfect for lighting a campfire and relaxing. I liked the colors and warmth of this photo.

A very old and large cottonwood tree dwarfs a passing steam locomotive in Nevada. I chose to shoot this in black and white and add some color for effect.

An old railroad directional marker stands next to a rail line in Ely, Nevada. Once abandoned, the track now hosts “The Ghost Train” which features an old steam locomotive that takes tourists on a nice ride around the Ely area.

An old cottonwood tree and an old barn show the test of time. I chose to develop this photo with a look that closely matches the era of the images portrayed.

When the winds in Washoe Valley, Nevada begin to blow, they can churn up the waters of Washoe Lake to the point where the waves of the lake look like chocolate al they approach the shoreline.

The snow was coming down heavy and these birds took refuge in a grove of trees. Robins and Bluebirds mixed with others to wait out the storm.

I saw that the sun was making colors in the clouds that still had some moisture after a passing storm. It almost looked like rainbows were being formed. The camera lens created its own perspective in what looks like waves going across the sky. The sun was very bright, so I used some filters to give it a wonderful color which just added to the piece.

Sometimes clouds, light and timing tend to create images in our minds that resemble things we are familiar with. This particular photo resembled a lions head to me.

Even in the middle of the Nevada desert you can find pockets of water evaporating in the summer sun.

A panoramic view of Carson City, Nevada. In the foreground is the soon to be gone forever Lompa Ranch. Development in the area will cover over one of the largest pieces of ranch land in the city with homes and apartments.

Arco, Idaho is located in Butte County. One of the attractions of the area is a mountain where graduating classes from every year back to the early 1900’s have painted their graduation dates on the rocky slope. This practice is set to end in 2020.

The Tabor House (far end of photo) in Wallace Idaho is a vacation rental which sits in a very colorful neighborhood. Most of the homes date to the late 1800’s.

This must be what wagon trains saw when travelling across the plains of southeastern Oregon. You can imagine trying to decide what direction to take to get further west.

Near Winnemucca, Nevada, the mountains are fresh with untouched snow. The clouds hanging and casting a cold shadow over the landscape.

Craters of the Moon can be a very inhospitable place. This tree defied the odds and grows on a lava sand hill overlooking the valley.

The early morning in Northern Idaho produces some nice mist and low fog in this valley.

The rock formations outside of Elko, Nevada are striking. If you look closely, this one looks like a man sitting on the side of the mountain.

Even with a little smoke in the air from forest fires, these white sands along the Salmon River in Idaho beckon to be walked upon.

Outside of Elko, Nevada, you will find a formation of rocks that seem out of place for the area. The towering pillars are a wonder to behold.

This image was shot at Cave Lake State Park near Ely, Nevada. On an overcast day, the water was calm and reflective. Very Relaxing and perfect for a leisure time upon the water. The lake itself is not too big but, hosts a campground, day use area and is great for fishing and hiking.

An abandoned barbed wire fence holds it own after many years of service. It has survived snow, rain and fire. This section is located near the old railroad right away in Carson City, Nevada. I liked the colors and the historic value of the photo.

A tunnel bored into a hillside near Wallace, Idaho rests abandoned. It’s original purpose unknown. Water drainage?, mine entrance?, escape tunnel? who knows. The brick work against the green foliage makes for a nice photo of mystery.

In Wallace, Idaho you will find numerous Victorian style homes. I took this photo during the winter of 2017. I chose black and white as I liked the way the home stood out against the snow covered trees. At the time, the snow was falling and you can see this in the photo.

Early silver production brought the need to produce charcoal for use in the smelters which processed the ore. Near Willow Creek, six charcoal ovens were built in 1873 to produce charcoal to fuel the smelters.
The beehive shaped ovens were designed as a replacement for the open-pit system that originated in Italy, because they were a more efficient way to reduce pinyon and juniper into useable fuel.
The ovens are 30′ high and 27′ in diameter at the base. The walls are 20″ thick with 3 rows of vents around the base used to control drafts. It took 13 days to fill, burn and empty a 35-cord kiln. Wood was loaded through the back doors where the ovens were banked against higher ground.
Today this area is designated as a State Park. I liked this shot due to the contrast of the ovens against the mountain in the background. This park is well worth a visit as these ovens are unique in design and stand out against the plains of the desert.

In the mountains around Wallace, Idaho, you will find many rivers and streams. During the snow melt, water will run off the mountain sides creating photographic opportunities such as this one.

A collection of pebbles and drift wood are left lying on a beach at Payette Lake in McCall, Idaho. The unknown child who collected these items left them in a green strainer along with a red plastic shovel. I liked the way the colors contrasted with the surroundings including the pebbles that can be seen through the clear water in the morning sun.

As the snow melts in the mountains around Wallace, Idaho, they combine into this waterway which goes through the town. The small waterfall makes for a striking image as the water cascades over and once done, it appears calm and smooth.

On a cool morning in Wallace, Idaho, the clouds hang heavy and the mist rises from the forest floor. It is a beautiful and peaceful scene that just beckons to be photographed.

A brush fire in the distance illuminate’s trees in the foreground in June of 2018. The Voltaire Canyon Fire in Carson City, Nevada burned over 500 acres before being contained. Human caused; this photograph depicts the aftermath of carelessness.

I do not support graffiti, especially on nature but, this one grabbed my attention as I drove around Walker Lake, Nevada located near Hawthorne. The beauty of this lake against the desert and colorful mountains can be just stunning. Point this rock in the opposite direction and you will see the high mountain peaks that fill the lake.

Located in Central Nevada is the Big Smokey Valley. The range of mountains that surround this valley can be breathtaking when looking across them towards the snowcapped mountains. The blend of high desert and mountain tops gives you a sense of calm and peacefulness. Pinion Pines grows well in this high altitude and smell wonderful.

A lonely bench sits along the beachfront of a now waterless Washoe Lake in 2016. The lake located between Carson City and Reno, Nevada has now filled and overflowed at times. The image gives a feeling of loneliness and hope while looking towards the snow capped Slide Mountain.

Brilliant colors abound in this shot taken just outside Virginia City, Nevada. I especially liked the colors of the rock that blended with the hillside and surrounding bushes tones.

A field of yellow flowers and green hills gives a very peaceful feeling. The storm clouds in the background only help to intensify the colors. There is one anomaly in the sky to the right of the photo just above the hillside that I decided to leave in as I cannot identify just what it is so, it adds a bit of mystery to the photo. The photo was taken along Highway 95 in Southern Idaho.
